Equipment needed:
There are three ways for you to go about your gear:
- You have your own gear and do not need anything.
- You want to purchase your gear so you can keep it.
- You want us to equip you. A fee may apply depending on the gear you need.
This is what you need:
A reliable shotgun that you do not mind getting wet. We recommend pump action for reliability, and we strongly suggest a taltical length barrel (16") because longer barrel are heavier and you will be holding this gun up most of the day.
We recommend tha the shotgun be equipped with a sling.
Ammunition:
You will want to have at least 150 shells of #9 shot and 25 shells of rifled slugs. A bandoleer or vest that can carry 50 shells will make your day easier (and you will ant that).
An assault vest that is reliable enough to hold securely your gear: water, ammunition, radio and GPS, and whatever else you feel you must carry.
Strong wraparound glasses that will not fall when thick branches rub against your face.
A camelback or other hydration device is a good idea, or you can carry water in your vest in bottles that will hold crawling. We won’t be carrying anything for you.
Your condition:
You MUST be a good physical shape with no heart, respiratory or other issues that would present a restriction to acute physical effort and/or a danger to your health. During this event you will climb in and out of water, up and down dirt walls, crawl through brush, palmetto, progress through soft and thick mud, swing on a rope with all your equipment mounted on your person, and handle difficult terrain.
You may encounter deadly spiders, snakes, scorpions and all that populates a Georgia Swamp. They are not rubber snakes or plastic spiders . . . they are the real thing. If this scares you, then you should not be taking part to this event. If you have environmental allergies with reactions that can present a danger to your wellbeing, you should not partake to this event.
We will need a note from your doctor certifying that you are fit for this course. To do that is as simple as printing this page and taking it to your doctor and get a physical.
The event is comprised of three periods:
Period 1: An interview with your Range Officer ahead of the day of the event. This is so we can evaluate your condition, knowledge, equipment, safety level, as well as answer all the questions you may have.
Period 2: Morning training session in which you will be taught the folloiwng:
- Parts of a shotgun.
- Rules of Safety.
- How to load and unload a shotgun.
- Shotgun load transitions.
- Shotgun shooting.
- Muzzle awareness.
- Managin Area Of Responsibility (AOR).
- Shooting positions.
- Hand singal communication.
- Cover and concealment.
- Two-man room entry and room clearing (high level overview and live fire practice.
Session 3: The event itself.
- You will spend close to two hours in the jungle, climbing, crawling, roping, maybe even swimming.
- You will carry all your own gear.
Regardless of the timeslot You will NOT be able to do reconnaissance on the terrain. At time and depending on the season you may go about 100 yards almost completely under water and just a bit less than ½ mile on land.
Participation to this course requires a note from your doctor certifiying that you do not have physical conditions that preclud you from attending this course safely.
